The LPC is gone. The SQE is the only pathway.
In 2021 the SRA closed the LPC route to new entrants and introduced the Solicitor Qualifying Exam as the statutory pathway for England and Wales. The SQE is now mandatory for every trainee entering the profession after the 2032 transition cutoff.
At the same time, dual qualification has become the new growth area. Roughly a third of incoming City trainees target a US bar in parallel with the SQE, and firms competing for that talent need a partner who can run both qualifications on one calendar, with one set of mocks and one shared cohort view.
